King John Short Cross Penny, Class 5B? Update - Class 7A3 Henry III, 1220-1222

JohnConduitt Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 725 Posts	Posted 02/16/2022 8:41 pm The moneyer is ILGER ON LVND, which means it has to be somewhere between Class 5b1 and 7b2. But I can't see any pellets in the hair ringlets, which you'd find in Class 5. The beard isn't made of neat vertical strokes, there's no collar and there doesn't seem to be a pellet on the chin, which are also Class 5 features. I think it might be Class 7a3 (Henry III, 1220-1222, Spink 1356A), which has a rounder face and long whiskers, teardrop-shaped eyes and no pellets in the hair curls or on the chin. The cross on the crown points to the right of the letter E, which means it is 7a3 rather than 7b1. Edited by JohnConduitt 02/16/2022 8:52 pm Report this Post to the Staff

But they are sometimes very hard to attribute!
