An 1839 Farthing Query - Coin Community Forum

Kipster Valued Member United Kingdom 312 Posts	Posted 05/11/2022 07:14 am Morning all, Just wanted to get an opinion of a coin I nabbed off ebay last week. It's an 1839 farthing with 2 prongs, but there are a couple of things I just wanted to ask those who know better than me. This is my first attempt at uploading photos, so I apologise in advance for any poor quality The first thing is that the first A in GRATIA is unbarred. The second is that REG FID DEF and the 2 prong trident all seem to be overstamped (I hope this shows properly in the images). When I look under my illuminated loupe, it stands out a mile. It looks far better in the hand than in these photos, and these early Victorian coins are a bit addictive. Found some corkers of late on ebay, but as quality comes, so do the bidders, and my pockets aren't that deep. Doing a bit of research and I think I've done ok on the price paid though.
