I collected these about 25 years ago or so and recently sold off some doubles to a coin store I frequent.And what was told to me is that they sit for months without much interest in the Mercury dimes much anymore.But then again I was selling some.Ha!Ha!I had a 1916-D in VF but sold it off in a money crunch I had a couple decades back and Gurrrrrr!!!! I wish I still had it today.Wow are 16-D's up there now even in lowest grades it seems. P.S.Much of the torch lines were bold and visible to.   |

I like your Winged Liberty Dimes. I also have a set but mine are circulated ones and 2 slabbed ones for my type sets. When I can, I pick up Mercury dimes as junk/constitutional as I like the way they look. Edited by hfjacinto

Nice set a goin there  ... I recently bought a PCGS AG-3 1916-D CACed dime to complete my set that I most certainly will not bust out, and got mine for a great price, so you might find one for a deal if you are patient...  |

Nice set! When I was a youngster, I was fascinated with Mercury dimes. I still remember buying a few circulated rolls with my saved-up lawn mowing money in the late '60's and early '70's and gradually filling holes in my Whitman album. I think I only have about 5 now as part of my various type sets, but would love to own a '16-D at some point! Member of SPMC, FCCB, ANA and ANS. I have an album for the Mercury dimes just like for everything else. I just need the 1921's and the 1916 D. Maybe I'll put the 1921's on next years coins to purchase. I have maybe a dozen rolls of Mercury dimes just for junk silver value. So I do not actively collect or study this particular series, but I'll pick up a nice one if I see it is a good deal. I can't say I agree with the dealer about the interest of Mercury dimes decreasing. Probably just stagnant, nothing really to spark interest in the series like the new 2021 morgan and peace 100th anniversary releases. Suffering from bust half fever. When they issued the 2016 gold centennial coins for the Mercury dime, Standing Liberty quarter, and Walking Liberty half dollar, I was really expecting that that would really drive up interest in the original series of those three coins. Maybe it did, but I'm not sure as I don't monitor the coin market that closely. However, the Mercury dime is a classic and beautiful design, and the majority of the coins in the series are still quite affordable in collectible grades even for those on a modest budget, so I can't imagine the interest dropping off too much. |

Neo classic Greek design, 90 % silver, and relatively cheap per coin.
for the common examples. That adds up to fun collecting for a collector on a budget.
Such a collection can be built from junk silver, just keep the best examples for the collection, and stash the rest.
If I were to build a type set that describes the development of American coinage from it's beginnings with a single denomination,
silver Dimes would be the way to go.

Definitely a nice set :) I got impatient and overpaid for a NGC AG3 1916-D on HA a few weeks back. I think it was an overcorrection from waiting until the end to grab the CCs and 93-S for my Morgans and watching those run up the past couple of years. This time I started with the key coin for my Mercury dime collection. |

If that empty hole bothers you, plug it with two dimes, a 1916 atop a D mint reverse dime.  |
