echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 02/14/2009 12:56 pm , I stand corrected, The first coin appears to be a cast copy of the emperor Gordian II 238 AD. The obverse: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG, and the reverse: ROMANE AETERNAE and is Rome seated holding victory and a scepter. The only type of coins issued by Gordian I and II are Denarius and Sestertius. Can you post the size and weight of this coin. From your pictures it looks the size of a Denarius. Coins of Roman emperor Gordian II are extremely scarce, and like all scarce emperors, his coins are frequently copied. There are three of these on FORVM's fake coin database, though none of them look exactly like yours. For me, the style of lettering doesn't look quite right, and the porous background and weak reverse details make me think it's a cast copy. If it were genuine, this coin (a sestertius, Sear# 8470) would be worth thousands. With the second item, I can't help you much - I assume it's some kind of tourist souvenir from Milan. "La Madonnina" is the statue of the Virgin Mary that caps the spire of the Milan Cathedral.
