So going through what I think is the last of my grandfathers coin collection and found this interesting coin mixed in. A 1/2 Stiver from Guyana minted in 1813. Apparently only year that this variety was minutes in. Was just a interesting find and not quite sure why it was mixed in with all the rest of the mostly modern coins. Fun find never the less

That is a fun copper coin you've got there @drp. When I looked it up on numista, I was interested to see the partly smooth, partly grooved edge. I'm not sure I've seen that on a coin before—undoubtedly an anti-counterfeiting detail. Here is the link:

If someone was putting together a "One From Every Country" collection back in the 1970s or 1980s, there were a lot of these floating around. Or maybe the coin intrigued him with its British royal portrait, but a Dutch denomination, and no clue in the reverse legend of its origins?

I had one in my childhood collection, and was generally spending just a dollar per coin.

Thats what weird, as fair as I am aware he wasnt. His coin collection was mostly two things: US silver coins(half junk silver half old half and dollar coins) and modern foreign coins from place he traveled to. There were a few coins that didnt fall into those categories but I think I know why he had them, reminded him of family members. Like I have a Hungarian coin from 1895 I think my great great grandmother brought over and a Prussian coin from 1789 that I think he got because it has my great great grandfather name on it (Friedrich William) on it.

He probably picked it up when he was traveling, just weird as I said, doesn't fit with anything else.
