Bill(s)

Companion Bills
- S 305 (Introduced: February 7, 2023; Richard Blumenthal (D-CT))
- HR 1096 (February 17, 2023; Seth Moulton (D-MA))

(118th Congress)

Short Title

- 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps Commemorative Coin Act

Proposed Year of Issue

- 2025

Purpose

Pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps and raise funds for the continuation of educational programs of the Marine Corps Heritage Center.

"The Congress finds the following:

(1) November 10, 2025, marks the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps.

(2) The United States Marine Corps has, over the course of its illustrious 250-year history, fought gallantly in defense of the United States.

(3) The United States Marine Corps has established itself as a leading military force, always prepared for tomorrow's challenges and to contend with the future character of war.

(4) The United States Marine Corps continues to exemplify the warrior ethos that has made it a fighting force of international repute.

(5) All Americans should commemorate the legacy of the United States Marine Corps and recognize the significant contributions the values embodied in the Corps have made in protecting the United States against its enemies.

(6) In 2000, Congress authorized the construction of the Marine Corps Heritage Center as a multipurpose facility for historical displays for the public viewing, curation and storage of artifacts, research facilities, classrooms, offices and associated activities consistent with the mission of the Marine Corps.

(7) On November 10, 2006, the Marine Corps Heritage Center opened to the public, with exhibits that share the history of the Marine Corps from 1775 until 1975, and with planned future exhibits on modern day Marine Corps history from the end of the Vietnam War through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

(8) The United States should pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps by minting and issuing a commemorative coin.

(9) The surcharge proceeds from the sale of a commemorative coin, which would have no net costs to the taxpayers, would raise valuable funding for the continuation of educational programs of the Marine Corps Heritage Center."

Coins

- Up to 50,000 Gold $5 coins
- Up to 500,000 Silver $1 coins
- Up to 750,000 Clad Copper-Nickel $0.50 coins

- Per GovTrack: <5% (as of date of this post)

Comments

The 230th Anniversary of US Marine Corps and the mission of the Marine Corps Heritage Center were recognized with a commemorative silver dollar in 2005 - IMO, this proposal is an unnecessary and undeserved "double dip." For more about the 2005 coin, see:

- 2005 Marine Corps Anniversary - Part I
- 2005 Marine Corps Anniversary - Part II
- 2005 Marine Corps Anniversary - Coin & Stamp Set

Similar bills were introduced in the House and Senate in the prior Congress (117th), but were not reported out of Committee.

No question that the US Marine Corps has had a vibrant history of support to the Nation. That said the 2005 coin seems to have been an appropriate commemorative tribute so I'm not in support of another 20 years later.

Bring on the other contenders!

Another Great Topic, The United States Marine Corps, YES They have carried the Brunt of ALL combat Conflicts, America owes them, More than " All Americans should commemorate the legacy of the United States Marine Corps and recognize the significant contributions the values embodied in the Corps have made in protecting the United States against its enemies. "

They are the Foremost Elite Fighting Machines We Have !!!!
I Respectfully Disagree with the Previous Post Stating, "Bring on the other contenders!" . Commemoratives could NOT be for a Better Reason, Without the Forces like the U S M C, We would Not have Other Contenders, America counts on People like them, Why Not Celebrate THEM... America's Military has NOT come close to being Commended, After ALL The Corps has gone through, The First ones in and the Last ones out, The USMC.!!!Celebrate the 250TH Anniversary of One of The Greatest American Military Elite Forces, America comes to Count on..... Edited to say, Ask a United States Marine what They Think...........

@Morgans_dad: I don't believe anyone is trying to slight the incredibly impotant role the US Marine Corps has had in shaping the US. All that was being questioned was if it was appropriate to issue a second Marine Corps coin, for similar purposes, 20 years after a similar coin was issued.

Also, I believe, the "Bring on the contenders!" comment referred to more posts about the other commemorative coin proposals now pending in Congress vs. anything to do with the US Marine Corps.

Commems,

I see Your concerns. I am Very Pro Military, I mean Nothing But, The Topic states" Possible ? "..I Know Exactly what The Topic Is, I am a Very Passionate Person,

The Fact the 2005( 230th Anniversary Edition ) Commemorative was Passed is Great. Now let's discuss the 250TH Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. Clearly They Deserve the Recognition, Clearly Others think differently, I Respect that. I also Respect the Decision to Consider the USMC Very Appropriate, In My Opinion..... I mean No Malice....

I can Only give My Opinions, That's All I did. Just My Humble Opinion on the Ways the Country Treated, Treats, Will Treat Our Greatest Strengths, Our Military....

I was Not Stating Anything but My Opinion, My Family has Deep Roots in the USMC......

Thank you for sharing!

I agree the 2005 coins are adequate, but I would not be opposed to a 2025 issue.

I realize that this has already been reported http://goccf.com/t/453288, but I wanted to close the loop on this post - the coin has progressed from "Possible" to "Actual.".

This coin proposal was signed into law on July 26, 2023 (Public Law No: 118-10). The 250th anniversary of the US Marine Corps will be commemorated in 2025.
