Yes, the roll was advertised as a roll of 2013 coronation coins. Only one of them was. The sellers that look dodgy to me are the ones who are relatively new to ebay, have sold very few items, have established a good reputation by purchasing/selling a few low value items and then go on to sell several 'Cotton and Co' rolls and then have no more items to sell. How many people out there have 3 or more 2013 $2 Cotton and Co rolls to sell? Seems there are few such sellers (scammers? ) on ebay....maybe a money laundering group?

Quote: Yep, one end showed the purple coronation coin and the other was a 2013 obverse. All inner coins were circulated coins of various years and poor quality. If I had kept the roll intact I would not have known the difference. I wanted the coins to make up some sets. That is why I opened it up. I suspect there are other collectors out there that have purchased similar rolls but have not opened them because they want to keep the roll intact. Nasty surprise coming one day for someone! Yes,as I've posted previously, same happened to me about 20 years ago, roll of Norfolk Island Federation 20c coins. Roll looked a bit suss, opened it up,and NI coins at each end,the rest were made up of normal circulated 20c coins. Seller claimed no knowledge as he had purchased it on ebay previously, fortunately he refunded purchase costs and apologised,i was lucky. As an aside back in the 1970's there were lots of Coin rolling machines going to Auction in Aust. as the Banks headed to coin bags, major Dept. stores off loaded hundreds of them so you would think they are still out there. Easy to print up some roll paper with any logo you like and roll coins.

Haven't got my $ back yet but still trying. The longer this goes on, the more I lose hope. 2K down the drain,...Oh well, silly me. I did contact Imperial who roll the Cotton and co rolls and I was told that there have been other people who bought 2013 $2 coronation rolls through ebay recently and were ripped off like I was. Different sellers too apparently. Imperial's view is that the scammers open one end of the roll; remove the contents and repack with low value coins and fold the end up again. I thought it would be too hard to do this without damaging the wrapper and leaving obvious signs of tampering. I just tried it with a security roll from the bank and was surprised about how easy it actually is! A determined scammer who has practiced on some cheap rolls from the bank could do it easily. Please be aware of this scam. Even Imperial admitted it adversely affects the value of their products but there isn't much they can do about it. I would suggest to anyone who has purchased a Cotton and Co roll on ebay from a seller other than Imperial recently to check the contents of that roll. I would also suggest that you don't purchase any rolled coins other than from the original company that rolls them. I found it surprisingly easy to extract coins from a roll and repack them again and if I could do it on first go, anyone could - especially a determined and practiced scammer. Stay safe people.

I should add too that if you have recently purchased a suspect roll, you should probably try to take a video of it being opened and showing the actual coins that are inside. I took photos of the coins that came out after it was opened but that is NOT proof of what actually was inside the roll. You will need to show what actually comes out as it is opened. I won't ever buy rolls from anyone other than the original roller- such as RAM or Imperial - again! I thought rolls were safe but I have learnt the hard way. Be careful everyone.

The scammers bank on the fact that most people would never open the roll.
Surely sachets are a more secure way of buying/selling coins. Yes, I know there will be "bag marks" but at least you can see that the seller is not trying to rip you off.
Horrible situation you are in Sally. Is the seller claiming you got a full roll but are just claiming you didn't?

Its a lot better these days compared to the early days in Aust. where every 2nd listing was a scam but still a minefield.

Why anybody looks at this junk is beyond me.

I would only buy rolls from reputable established sellers who offer unconditional returns. Scammers use recrimpers to cover up their heinous misdeeds.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I don't think that it was silly of you at all ... it's totally reasonable to expect to get what you paid for! $2000 is a serious amount of money. Since you haven't made mention of it, I gather that you didn't purchase the roll using PayPal as I've found them very good to deal with if a problem arises. Nevertheless, ebay should be assisting you, according to their Money Back Guarantee. Statements, such as these below, can be readily found on ebay's website: How do I deal with Fraud on ebay?Concerned about a fraudulent listing? At the bottom of every listing you will find a link saying "Report this item". That takes you to a form you need to fill in to tell us why you are reporting. This includes counterfeit or stolen items, or other suspected fraud. Does ebay have fraud protection?Keeping our members safe is a top priority for us, so we have zero tolerance for fraud on ebay. If you spot something suspicious, let us know. Seller fraud is any attempt by sellers to misrepresent themselves, or the products they're selling. Does ebay prosecute sellers? We work with law enforcement to seek prosecution for criminal acts that impact our platform and our customers, and we fully support stiff penalties for online crimes to create a strong deterrent effect. Your findings should also assist in your case: 'I did contact Imperial who roll the Cotton and co rolls and I was told that there have been other people who bought 2013 $2 coronation rolls through ebay recently and were ripped off like I was. Different sellers too apparently. Imperial's view is that the scammers open one end of the roll; remove the contents and repack with low value coins and fold the end up again.'Stay positive and keep on it ... I feel that you have a good case for getting your money back!

Thanks Coaster for your support and going to the effort to find and post that info. Greatly appreciated thank you. . I am still hoping for a refund and ebay says it will happen, just not yet - not sure why it would take so long. Anyway, just out of interest I had a look to see if any other suspicious looking rolls are up for sale on ebay. There are a few rolls with dodgy looking ends, coins at the end showing the obverse have scratches or signs of circulation or photos are blurred. None of that is necessarily sinister and maybe that's just me being once bitten twice shy. Buyer beware!

Finally received the full refund. Huge relief. I have learned my lesson and won't be buying any rolls from other than Imperial or trusted dealers from now on. Interesting to see the message from Imperial on their Facebook page regarding the dodgy rolls. I would very strongly urge anyone who has bought ANY roll of coins from individuals on ebay lately to open them up and check the contents. Good luck.
