Stamped Uniface Jockey Club Token/Medal Help ID

b2v New Member United States 40 Posts	Posted 01/16/2024 4:08 pm This was part of a collection I acquired originating out of Chicago that had tokens and medals from the US and Europe, some 19th and 18th century items. Researching this, I'm finding a lot of repetitive information on a few Jockey Club tokens and medals. Spinning my wheels at this point and and being bit of a newer collector, not knowing all the right resources to use, I was hoping to get some help with either identifying it or suggesting the right resource to be using. I'm not seeing anything remotely similar over at tokencatalog.com. I know you say that this is uniface, but could you please upload a pic of the back? I'm interested to see how "finished" it looks--is it just bear pot metal or similarly antiqued as the front. Rather than being a token, I wonder if it wasn't a medallion or adornment removed from a larger piece. My oversight, and having re-read your post, though it was much the tone as photographed, the other night I placed it in an ultrasonic cleaner with water and dawn platinum to remove some caked-on earth on the rear. Sap Moderator Australia 16883 Posts	Posted 01/16/2024 11:30 pm The technical terms for when an item where the reverse is a mirror-image-incuse copy of the obverse design is "bracteate", if it was intentional , or "brockage" if it was done in error. Given how thin it is, I would assume this item is a bracteate, rather than a brockage. Being bracteate, I would also assume it to be a badge or medal of some kind, rather than a token. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

I see Jockey Club medals are items that are collected, I don't see nearly as many tokens as I search. For either, does anyone know a good resource that might catalogue either of the two?
