I was renovating my house and decided to put in a new sub floor. When I tore up the old floor I noticed a nickel on the ground. I picked it up and put it in my cupboard until the work was done. Now that I researched it and found out more about it I wanted to see what everyone would have to say about it. Anyone with a value?

It looks like a Far "6", but need a better close-up to know for sure.

Here is a link with pictures and pricing on 1926 nickels.

I agree that it looks like a far six...but for grade, I need a close up of the crown and head. Initial opinion is at least VF..but I need that picture to get closer...

I would be inclined to agree--the distance between 2 and 6 is too great. I was initially thrown by the dint at the bottom of the 6 which appears to lower the baseline of this digit. But also the shape of the 6 for the "far 6" variety is slightly different...the upstroke is a little more blunt.

I enlarged his pic too:

I think you guys are right. It is a near "6" variety.

The tip of the six is rather sharp and the distance between the "2" and "6" is great. It was the distance of the "6" tip to the maple leaf that threw me off initially.

It looks like it is a EF40 like SHAFTA9a said.
It would cost $70 to buy one from a dealer, but a dealer would give $30 to $50 for it.

Well thanks guys for your help. I am still confused as to whether it is a far or near. I am going to find a place to get it appraised and go from there. I will post ho it turns out.

Thanks again!

Well, I took it to a dealer and he said that it was a near 6. He also said that he sells the same coin for $5. It doesn't really go with what 1945V says. So I will try a different dealer and see what they say.

If your dealer can sell coins in that condition for $5.00, I want two of them.

Without seeing this coin in the flesh, I can however still comfortably grade it an EF, Charltons got EF's listed for 85 bucks Canadian.
Where this guy is getting 5 bucks from...is beyond me. Even a low VG grade is worth 10 bucks.
Does this guy have a website? I want to buy a whole mitful @ 5 bucks if hes got em.

I don't see where that came from either, maybe he mis-read something. ~ Jim
