Hello everyone, I am new here. And I am new to currancy values as well. I read an article yesterday on Market Watch that talked about 1976 $2 dollar bills that start with a 1 can be worth up to $20,000. However upon searching, I can't actually find any evidence of this. Is there anyone here who is knowledeable on the subject? I have the following serial numbers on uncirculated bills, two of them are off center. All are "H" #11761641, #11761665, #11761707, #11762147, and #17645527.

I'm far from an expert, but the serial numbers that have value seem to fall into 1 of 3 categories:
Very low serial numbers - 3 digits or less, like 00000247
Radar serial numbers - 12344321
Single digit or binary serial numbers - 77777777 or 67676767
Star notes, depending on the age and condition of the note, can bring a premium.
I haven't read the article that's out there, but it sounds like hype to me. That big dollar note probably ends with a 1, like 00000001.

Thank you. Yeah I was wondering too since I couldn't actually find evidance of the serial starting with 1 being anything special. The only note I found that sold for 19K was a double printed serial.

Welcome to CCF. I Googled Market Watch, found the article you're referring to and read it. I believe you're misinterpreting what they've said. They're saying that a serial #1 (00000001) could be worth $20,000. I did a screenshot of the article  |

Serial #1 wouldn't start with a 1, rather it would be 7 zeroes followed by a 1 - 00000001

No, serial numbers are read from left to right, just like you read text.

00000000 note #1 = 00000001 note #10= 00000010 note #1 would not be 100000000 that would be 10 million Maybe Steve can explain it better. I know what I mean  John1 |

I definitely get what John1 is talking about.
We read modern 8 digit serial numbers left to right except when they're low serial numbers. I collected serial number 12, and I didn't present notes saying that they're serial number zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, one, two. I'd just say twelve.
