I am a retired hobby coin collector and bank roller. For the last several years I have been bank rolling quarters and halfs about $300 a week. My problem has become both banks that I use only have 2023 new rolls. I am just not interested in looking at that many identical coins.
So here is my question. What is my next best choice of coin types? I am thinking $1 coins. Not a lot of people bank roll $1 coins. Does anyone bank roll s1? If so any success finding close 1979 Susan's or wounded or cherries Sacagweas? Would you recommend a different type ooin. Thanks for your coin roller knowledge.

I dip into nickels periodically. I've been fortunate to find a fair number of wartime 'silver' nickels, as well as some lower mintage examples in decent condition.

I call bank rolling as being where you buy multiple rolls of coins. Then search them for coins with errors or premium value then return the ones you don't want. Coin Rolling same as Bank Rolling.

If you're getting that many mint state coins - regardless of the date - you should be searching for high grade gems. Just because they "look the same" they are not upon closer scrutiny. If you find a PCGS top-pop coin, it's like be worth FAR more than whatever you're searching for now. Certain years/mints in MS-67, 68, 69 slabs can be worth 5 figures.

You would have to buy mint sets and "never searched" (yeah,right) Mint wrapped rolls. THEN, spend money getting them graded - You could be $5000 in the hole before you start turning any kind of profit. And the only 69's ya ever gonna get are proofs and they aren't even worth the grading fees anymore for a novice........ |

Pretty much all mint sets have already been cherrypicked. In my experience, the majority of mint set coins are MS-65 and below. Quite a few modern Lincolns have MS-69 grades.  with BagThad.....During the crazy days of searching for W quarters I received several boxes of freshly minted coins (2019 n 2020) I pulled and set aside many "nice looking" coins and since have purchased a few slabbed MS-65 and MS-66 quarters from those years and I can honestly say some of my Denver hold backs out shine my PCGS graded W coins. I still get quarter boxes and look forward to "fresh" rolls. |

out shine my PCGS graded W coins. "Outshine" does not mean "outgrade" - I'd be foolish to grade every shiny quarter I ever saw that has bag marks. Plus "Shiny" coins can have finger print oils on them, you just won't realize untill it's too late if you actually send coins for grading. |

Mint sets are so cheap that normal people have them stashed away in drawers somewhere because Coin Vault told them to buy 10 sets. I even have 10 sets of 2002 mint sets unopened. They are so cheap the average non collector doesn't even bother selling them. So saying "Much all mint sets have been cherrypicked" is an opinion, Not a fact. |

@ Marve65....ok so maybe using "out shine" was the wrong term to use for all you purest reading this post....I've been in this hobby and collecting for quite awhile and know a MS coin from a polished/cleaned shiny one. Sorry I used a term you didn't like but I was responding to our newer member Rkennedy.

rkennedy1945, I think it is great that you are a "bank roller", I like the term! I'm not sure what your background is, as far as errors and varieties, in general but the most cost effective and easily accessible coin to search is cents. You may have to study up on the particular errors and varieties that this new to you coin will bring though. Cents are what I search probably 95% of the time, switching to nickels, dimes and quarters occasionally, just to change things up. To me, cents are kind of fun, because you can get anything from an Indian Head cent, wheats, copper memorials, zinc memorials, the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial and then lastly the shield cents, not to mention all of the foreign coins. Besides the possibility of finding a 100+ year old coin, there are many cool varieties strung throughout these years and then, of course the many possible errors. I have never been about making much off of what I find but don't mind when I do, it's just about the hunt for me, I enjoy hunting. The last thing I will say, is the more you know is out there, the more you will find.  Any assistance I can give, I will. Good hunting, rkennedy1945.
