Hey all - First post here. Someone on r/Coins on Reddit recommended I post on this forum.

I got these two coins back today with details/damage.

I'm not concerned with it not getting a grade, but I did want to know more about the reason. I called PCGS, and they said there were signs of repair but didn't specify which coin or both. I figure the hive mind here would be able to help me. I think the Trade dollar has a little dent on the rim. For the yen, I couldn't tell what the specific damage was.

Thank you!

Good photos. These should help as we evaluate the pieces.

One coin per post please.

On the Trade dollar, I might see something under the N of Grains
And something fishy at 10 o'clock on the reverse

On the reverse of the yen, it looks like there is a scratch \ running across the central part of the sun.

On the reverse of the Trade dollar there appears to be pin holes directly across from each other at 5 and 11 o'clock. The 5 o'clock area may also have some residual solder. Evidently the piece was mounted, possibly to be worn as jewelry.

Edit
Looking more closely at the yen, there may also be a damaged denticle and pin hole on the reverse between 6 and 7 o'clock.
