Needless to say but fun to point out, it is a woman.

The charitable people who published this collection o 120 medals found in there hearts space for three women: Anne Necker better known as Madame de Stael, Antoinette Des Houlières, and Heloise.

She drove Napoleon mad so she was difficult to ignore when these medals were issued.

I am trying to decide whether to clean this medal. It has accumulated some dirt in these two centuries. I dislike leaving dirt on medals, makes it harder to preserve them.
But this is an original not a 1967 restrike. The taking the dirt away makes it look more like the restrikes.

Nice medal. You could try soaking it in 100% pure acetone to see if the dirt comes off.

I like the way it looks now personally if acetone doesn't remove the dirt that you see I would leave it alone.

Thanks all. In my experience acetone alone will do little to remove this dirt
I will keep it as it is.

I would leave the dirt, it looks fine - remove it and you may find that it is not toned like the areas with no dirt.
