I think it was a hit a very long time ago and smoothed over with circulation. (there are no listings for an RPM that I see.)

I don't think this is the case, but it might be good to check and rule it out.
There are some contemporary counterfeits in the series that have well-worn appearances and somewhat similar pitting in the fields. The counterfeit 1921 is fairly commonly found, but there are other dates (including a couple non-existent dates). What does this coin weigh? In hand, does it look and feel right?

Purchased a pre-1930 lot of 30 coins from big box store out of Ca. prior to "Silver Rush". It's a win-win unless determined to be a counterfeit. Feels and appears genuine to me, weighs 11.7g on my JZ-560 (cheap scale). What's the Weight Tolerance on Walkers? |

Weight should be 12.5 g +/- 0.097 g for pre-Franklin silver halves, i.e. 12.403-12.597 g.
Given the apparent heavy wear, a lower figure would be expected, but 11.7g is low. I would try a different scale. A jewelry store might have a good one and might also be willing to use an XRF to determine metal content. (Jewelry stores frequently charge for this, but asking nicely may get a free test because they sometimes are fascinated with helping authenticate coins, and it isn't something they see every day.)
Specific gravity for 90% silver coinage should be 10.34. That might be another good test to use here.
Again, I don't think this is a counterfeit, but making sure wouldn't hurt. If it is a contemporary counterfeit, it may well be worth more than a genuine coin.

Might take this coin down to Loren at World Coin here is Sarasota. He's always friendly and willing help, I haven't visited him in a long while too. Although with this coin I really don't think its worth much effort.
