1994 South Africa 5 Cent: Can We Call This A Doubled Die ?

Sander Pillar of the Community Netherlands 560 Posts	Posted 02/02/2026 1:53 pm Just wondering if we can call this a doubled die.. Don't think so, but how should we call it then.. Obviously something went serious wrong while making (copying) the die.. This is a 5 Cent 1994 coin from South Africa, the 2nd photo is the same coin only normal how it should be.. It seems that they produce the die on a different way as most other countries.. I have found several more of other denominations.. But all of them seems to miss parts of the actual image of the coin.. * Edited by Staff to Add Year and/or Mintmark and/or Denomination to Title. I have been thinking about this phenomena the whole day, and I think it's a new kind of "error'.. I would like to call it: UDR (Uncompleted Die Reverse) in this case.. I found a better example in my "need to look better at it" stash.. This time it's a 20 Cent from 1995, now you can see that the die was not completed/finished.. If you look at the "2", it's impossible to be MD, it's also not a DD.. You clearly can see that some sort of CNC machine did not finish his job.. Otherwise you can't get this kind of 2.. I found also another 5 cent which is almost identical as the one I posted earlier.. But this one is struck with another die.. So it seems that the mint had some issues with there equipment back then.
