Have you had any experience with CAC?
Is CAC still a respected grading company?
How do you think CAC compares to the other grading companies?

I like buying CACG slabbed coins if I can get them for comparable graded coin prices. They grade extremely conservatively so I find them a good value.

CAC started out by grading the graders. A coin that had been graded by PCGS or NGC could be sent to CAC for verification of the grade. If they agreed with the grade they would attach a CAC sticker to the slab. The sticker could add value to the coin.
Eventually, CAC started grading coins and putting them in their slabs. These coins supposedly have a higher value.
Interestingly, CAC was founded by John Albanese who cofounded PCGS and NGC.

The reason I'm asking, I'm looking for additional opinions. It's time for something other than PCGS, NGC and ANACS.

I've looked into this subject a few times. I've watched some videos and read some articles and there are some people who think it's time for coin grading to become computer generated. They feel that consistency would be a big factor.
What do you all think about that in general?

Yes, definitely, and hopefully there will be more AI-generated articles and videos that finally convince people to trust that task to computers. As a microchip designer and variety enthusiast, I would like nothing better than to cherrypick all the best coins out of everybody else's collections by relying solely on my brain.  Evolution has spent the last 400,000 years honing the finest pattern recognition computer on Earth. I've spent three years training my computer on an excellent body of knowledge produced by other people's expert computers. I'm still quite comfortable trusting that software over anything that some silicon has mangled together in between rendering cat videos for TikTok and failing to reliably identify the motorcycles in captchas. |
