Why do you want that grade? Too late if you already bought it.........
A good question, actually. Why would I (or anyone) bother to post a coin and ask for opinions?
1. Bragging rights. If I get a nice coin I want to show it off.
2. Validation. CCF graders are usually accurate and insightful. Their responses may confirm whatever positive attributes the coin has, which can reinforce my own opinion. Sometimes posters point out defects that I overlook. In that case it's not good news but I'd prefer to know about any problems.
3. Education. CCF posters often provide information about a specific coin that I didn't know. Sometimes responses include historical context relevant to the coin, the mint, the manufacturing process, or economic factors that were in effect at the time.
4. Valuation. I've made prudent buying decisions and I've made bad deals. CCF feedback has helped me to tell the difference. I appreciate all the comments. It's been 18 years since my first CCF post and I hope to continue posting for as long as I stay active in numismatics.
Back to the original topic. This coin is graded AU-53, in an old ANACS holder. I don't think it has been significantly cleaned and eye appeal is strong. Contact marks are minimal for a CC double eagle. I'm satisfied I got a fair deal on this one.
