1949-D Nickel On Ebay, Unknown Mint Mark Anomaly. RPM? D/S? Chip?

Ran across this on ebay. It does not appear to have the correct position or markers for a D/S. Nor does it seem to match any D/D repunched mint mark on Variety Vista or Wexler. Nevertheless, it has a strange and compelling shape. Maybe it's Machine Doubling or a thin die chip along the mint mark cavity? Puzzling.

Very interesting! I would agree with E&V, it is likely Machine Doubling. If you look at the roof of Monticello you can see what looks like Machine Doubling across the left side of the dome and on the right half of the roof. It appears to be in the same direction as the doubling on the mm. Hard to tell for sure.
