Just a quick update for everyone. Kyra is home and doing much better. She's still a little bit sluggish, but I would be too if I was sick for three weeks! We just want to say thanks for all the good wishes from everyone!

Great to here Kyra is on the road to recovery! My Little girl Sara was just in for an infected and blocked tear duct. She looked like she got hit in the eye. She,s fine now. !

Had a question come up arounf the old camp fire, the other night. One of the guys ask "is cat considered light or dark meat?" One of the people there was of Indian decent and didn't know, as they only ate dog.
So I'm asking you cat lovers is it white or dark? Thanks for your help.
Rest in Peace

Kyra, I'm very happy to hear that my fellow Morgan nut is back on her feet. Just got me a 92CC, NGC MS-63, a very positive upgrade.

OD, Trust an old retired wildlife biologist: cats are dark meat. As far as edibility, quite a few years ago, I put out some cat body parts to attract scavengers (population estimates). Nuthin' but nuthin' would eat those pieces of cat: not raccoon, not raptors (birds of prey), not even yellow jackets which can strip flesh to bone in less than a day. I don't know of any races or tribes of humans which eat cat of any species; however, I'm sure there must be one or two out there who have tried it. Certainly not a popular dish in the world. But this may be more than you all wanted to know.

BTW, I am a very proud owner of a 12.5-year-old kitty (well, she thinks she's a kitten) who is my constant and uncomplaining (most of the time) companion. No cat-haters here!

Old Dan that is a really great question!!! I would have to agree with Morgan Fred about cats not being a favorite dish for anything but I have had coyotes come in to my quail flight pens only to find cats were already there so they just took the cats. Far less work than getting into a flight pen and over last winter they really took care of my cat problem. Also have heard of owls taking cats but have never seen it personally. One thing is for certain and that is we live in a living world and all living things prey and survive off of other living things. Just glad we are a little higher up the old food chain!

Now for all you cat lovers out there, this was in no way meant to offend you or your chosen breed of pet. There are and always will be those dogs and cats running loose that we all have to deal with in one way or another and if Mother Nature takes care of anything for me, who am I to complain?

All true and I'll have to amend my statement a little. Coyotes will eat most anything as will Bald Eagles which will take kittens, but in neither species is cat a preferred food. In wildlife biology terms, cats are considered "starvation food".

Not to get too philosophical here, but (again) as a wildlife biologist working for the US National Park Service, it was my job to preserve and maintain a Park's natural systems, i.e. remove unnatural (introduced = exotic = feral) fauna. Felis catus (aka F. sylvestris) cannot under any circumstances be considered "natural" and I had to remove as many as I could by any means (hundreds). Hence the source for body parts for scavenger effect studies. Now, please understand these were WILD cats with all the wiles, ferocity, and elusive habits of any wild animal with absolutely no possibility that they could be captured and domesticated;I took extreme care around live-captures since they would just as soon rip my eyes out. And I love cats. At night, I'd go home to the comfort and friendship of my own cat who was a tad more friendly. Still, I disliked that part of my job since the animals were targets through no fault of their own. These days, I seriously doubt I could kill a cat unless my own cat were in danger from another.

Gee, Susan, maybe we could have another coin category: non-coin subjects.

I hate to say anything, but being a cat-lover also, this thread was started to give us all an update on how Kyra was doing. How it got to the many different ways that cats can be eaten is kind of morbid. I hope you guys aren't upsetting Rachel.....

That's OK, Old Dan's comment gave me a good laugh! (Can't get used to calling you that, OD!) My boss always makes jokes about cooking his cats, but he has three of them so he can't really be a cat hater!

Kyra's a little out of sorts today, but I hope she'll come around again. I just got the bill for her last hospital stay, and it looks like I won't have to sell the coin collection to pay it! There- I got coins in the topic!

Yep! I guess you know me too good for that to have worked. When Catman sent me that old flea bitten tom cat, way back when, I thought "just another dang cat?" As it turned out, it has adopted me and when I'm home, I can't get away from it. It even rides right up in the saddle with me when we go out to check the cattle. Now if only I could teach it to go alone... on well, have a good day and scratch kyra's ear for me.

Boy am I glad to hear our Kyra is home and doing well. Dude says that if Kyra ever makes it to Las Vegas he will personally throw her a Tuna Party for the whole block with her as the guest of honor.

Well, Kyra was eating on her own, but she seems to have stopped again. If she doesn't snap out of it she'll have to go back to the doctor Monday. I'm gonna try Catman's suggestion of some tuna on her when she wakes up. If my hair wasn't going gray before all this, it certainly is now....
