The Cent was probably sanded removing the copper plating. If it were a nickel planchet it would be the same thickness and weight. But because the Cent collar is smaller than the Nickel planchet, it is impossible for this to happen. The collar will accept a dime planchet as it is smaller. It just can't happen the other way. Not because the planchet is smaller in width, some devices fall over the edge of the planchet. Also some areas are weak as the cent planchet is thinner than a nickel planchet.
