It looks like about a VF-30 in terms remaining detail. It's odd that it seems to have retained so much luster. Maybe some of the detail weakness is from a weak strike? Report this Post to the Staff

My 1836 quarter eagle is graded VF-30 by ANACS and shows more wear that yours from what I can tell in the pic... I want to say VF-35...It must be the lighting and blurred details (most likely the case), but it looks like it may have been polished. Is it in a problem free slab? Report this Post to the Staff
johnny54321 Rest in Peace United States 4849 Posts	Posted 09/25/2009 7:21 pm Interesting. Details seem weak and mushy, but maybe the picture is a bit blurred. It looks a bit beat up too, but that is common with these. My 1839-O looks beat up as well. I'm wondering if it was struck with a really worn die. The relief of the eagle seems pretty high as in a decent strike, but there are no details in the neck. It might make an XF-40 if the lack of detail is due to strike or die issues. It seems like a probable weak strike. Also picked this one up for a bargain, so I'm quite happy. Report this Post to the Staff
