History: The Collings Foundation has spent over 8 years restoring an F-4D (the only privately owned F-4 in the world). 8 pilots get to be qualified to fly the plane to airshows around the country. The pilots fly the airshow and give rides to folks who pay for the privilege of flying in the F-4. The Collings Foundation currently has 5 pilots qualified to fly their F-4D. I (REALLY) hope to be one of the other 3. And since I live 5 miles form where they hangar the jet, I'm the perfect choice (I think anyway!) I flew the F-4 for 5 years in the Air Force (1500 hours worth) and would LOVE to fly it again. Thanks to all who participated in this contest!! These are lots of fun!! It always amazes me how fast the CCF members figure out things! Lots of smart people collect coins apparently! WpgLwr please PM with your address and I'll get your War Nickel collection out to you! When I called the Foundation, they first thought I was interested in flying the airplane as a paying customer. The quoted me a $12,500 price tag for a 2 day program. The first day was classroom learning aircraft systems and emergency procedures and the second day you fly for around an hour. The Collings Foundation has a cool web site that talks all about what they do: CollingsFoundation.org. They're into a lot of neat things, including a few WWII bombers and old cars.
