Hmmm, I think Kerry67 and Ichirensha's posts have some merit from a newbie perspective, at least from a certain type of newbie. I think there is a type that more or less come here to read and learn about things and don't really feel comfortable posting all that much. I'm not very talkative myself until I get comfortable with people but I've done a lot of reading here and learned quite a bit. I can't speak for them but I don't really have that much time to fool around online but I try to keep up with this forum as well as a couple others and then there is e-mail, ebay, checking weather and whatever else. Much of the time I'm pretty much just scanning things trying to get in a quick session before the kids notice I might be enjoying myself and rebel and I don't have time to do everything I want, including posting. Some of us just don't get into the posting aspect and although we would like to buy, sell or trade it just isn't gonna happen for a while and we feel it bites. We may understand it and plan to abide by it but that doesn't make it bite any less. Now, as for the elitist thing I wouldn't say it is so much elitist as a good old boy kind of thing, and it is there. There is a group that posts, to one extent or another, and know each other and are comfortable with each other and I can understand that but it is rather tough to break in to cliques like that. Many make a good effort to make newbies feel at home (such as the birthday greeting last month, thanks. You, my daughter and my Mom remembered *LOL*) but when your posts are ignored and questions aren't responded to I know I just go back to reading. I enjoy trading and have done a few trades at another forum and had excellent results. I've not only gotten rid of some coins I didn't want anymore for some coins that I did want but I got to know the people I traded with a bit better too. I'll get to fifty posts sooner or later and when I do I'll take a shot at some deals and see what happens but the fifty post limit does seem a bit much to me. It isn't a major problem in my life, not even a minor one, maybe up there with a bit of heartburn maybe, I dunno, but I figured I'd throw my Two Cents in there and score yet another post.

I really don't think there is an "elite" group or a clique on our forum. It is true that there are certain members who post more than others, but all questions, comments, and posts are welcome in every thread.
As far as posts that go unanswered, I wasn't around for a long time because we were moving out of state. I'm back now and I constantly check the "Unanswered Posts" link so that should not be a problem any longer. I agree that it is discouraging if you post and no one responds. This is especially true if you don't post very often. In my opinion, these posts are the most important to respond to.
It is very important to me that no one feels excluded in any way. The 50-post rule is in place only for safety's sake and then only for selling or trading. Any member can offer to buy and any member can post in the forums and upload images.

Well, with 3371 posts and being the forum mom you probably wouldn't feel it much would you? For those of us on the outside looking in it's a different story. There have been a couple other people comment about it in this thread so far so it seems I'm not the only one. Any other newbies, or not so newbies, wanna rack up a post on this?
In any case I'm fine with this. I'm getting settled in at another forum really well and one of the reasons is that the get-to-know-you level is lower and since I enjoy swapping and such I've interacted with people more. Don't get me wrong, if I had to rely on my posting I'd still be lurking but in any case the main reason I'm here, or there, is to learn more about coins. The swapping is just a side bonus. When I quit finding interesting, knowledgable, people to cadge free info from I'll stop hanging around and throwing out my random posts. Since that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon I'll be around, probably lurking. Just there more than here.
There we go, another post for today. I'm on fire now. If we can keep this thread alive I should be able to haggle in another couple weeks or so.

TSOTL, I might say I appreciate your opinions and to you and many others they are valid but I do disagree about the elitist group or the good old boys you referred to. Many of us here have been together for years, coming here after the Coin World forum shut down, so we have quite a head start on you and others like yourself. The rules were put in place to serve EVERYONES best interest and they have served well. I might add you have the option at any time to email (PM) any member of this forum to work up a trade, to buy, or to sell. What ever comes out of that attempt will be between you and the member you contact. I imagine most would be glad to hear from you and work with you. When I started trading for Euro coinage in 2002 I was dealing with total unknowns from all over Europe and they with this stranger from the U.S. From that point I have created relationships all over the world and have never been burned one time by anyone. I am very proud of what I have accomplished and the coin collecting friends I have made world wide and on this forum. You can do the same with very little effort. Wish you nothing but the best and hopefully you will hang around, get those posts in, so this will all be a thing of the past. Until then use private email to build those relationships and see what happens. Thank you for your opinion and for being a part of this forum.

I have to say that I have the "active posts" always on my computer and it refreshes every minute so if theer is a new post and I am sitting at the computer you can bet I will respond if I know the answer. I am no expert in anything but my main focus is Morgans and have borrowed alot of knowledge from other members because I asked plenty plenty of questions, then I bought a few books and read alot and now I consider myself atleast a novice Morgan collector instead of a total newbie, so if you ever ask a question about a Morgan I will do my best to answer as soon as I see the post (which is atleast every hour).

I probably am registered on 30 forums and have posted on them at one time or another Currently I am down to 3 forums active and another 3 lurking
On every forum I ever visited there were people that found kindred spirits and if they had some time they would respond to those kindred spirits first .
On one reputable forum one of the moderators stated that the highest possible praise one could get was to be totally ignored . Of course I attained that lofty status and since they crashed I did not even bother to re register
I am convinced this is the most friendly and most helpfull forum on the net for a newby or to gather knowledge . TSOTL I hope you will stick around because you seem to fit the profile

TSOTL, I am so sorry that you feel that way. I have been a member of many forums and seen many trades and sales go badly because the posting minimum was set at 10 or 20 or there was no posting limit at all. It is from experience that I developed the rules for this forum in an attempt to avoid bad situations. I hope that you decide to stay with us. Metalman, I know that it was an honest mistake. We all make them. It was my fault for not changing the forum text in the first place.

Maybe for some people it's easy. As I previously posted I'm not that talkative and my time online is generally limited. Like many other newbs I don't have the experience or knowledge to answer very many questions that others throw out so I have to fit in posts where I can. The only reason I posted about this was because I felt that Kerry67 and Ichirensha's concerns were being blown off. Everyone tends to look at things based on their own perspective and since the people who were responding to them are regular posters there wasn't a problem as far as they are concerned. Relax everyone, I'll get fifty and I doubt I'm going anywhere. I've been hanging around since early May and this is my twentieth post, I think, so it will be a bit but if I was here only for the buy/sell/trade aspect I would have forced more posts and got there by now. Either that or bolted.
