Note: the items are listed in ebay Australia, so if any secure website is accessed, one will have to completely log in.

I'd like to report this seller, will do so later if I can get a break from work, but if someone else wants to report him, go for it.

The other thing to consider in shipping/handling costs is how a coin is packaged. We have always packaged our coins as we would like to receive the coins we buy. Those of you who have purchased from us know that we take great care in packaging and always use at least a bubble mailer (sometimes a box) to ship coins. On higher dollar coins and notes, we have started to make insurance mandatory and the shipping calculated. Anyone who has sold and shipped knows what is reasonable and what isn't. It certainly isn't reasonable to charge $5 and then mail the coin with no protection in a #10 envelope with a stamp on it. It would also be very foolish to charge 39 cents and then ship the nicely packaged coin in a bubble mailer. While shipping is not an area to make a profit on, it certainly does not have to be a constant loss either.

I have received some coins in just envelopes and it amazes me that they even arrive. The least I use to send is a bubble mailer plus extra support inside and if its over two large coins I'm sending,I use USPS Priority box. I have found that USPS can break an anvil. So I need to pack items accordingly.

I know ebay doesn't want to standardize S&H but they need to do a better job of policing their site for unscrupulous sellers taking advantage of people. I think it is more of a moral issue than anything else. I simply do not buy from those who overcharge, no matter how bad I need that particular coin or item. I hope their new policy will help but if it is anything like the hundreds of other policies they have implemented since their inception, it won't go far in changing what is occuring and has been for years.

They're still not as bad as UPS. And try to get a UPS insurance claim paid, it's about a futile as peeing on a forest fire.

Rest in Peace

As mentioned in another thread, ebay needs to have their attention drawn to those auctions in which shipping costs are excessive or outrageous (such as the above auctions I mentioned). Both the ANA and ebay have told me many times that we need to REPORT, REPORT, REPORT! See the ebay Report Site in the stickies under ebay Discussions.

Thats true. I don't use UPS at all anymore. I use FedEx and have had zero problems with them.

Count yourself lucky. I now have FedEx scare stories from both sides of the continent. When an address is marked with a 4'x8' sign and one watches the FedEx driver pass right by it two days in a row (second day out on the street trying to wave him down) and his dispatcher says the driver said he couldn't find the address (a commercial location, no less), then there's a problem. However, with enough phone calls, at least one FedEx office will drive out a missed parcel personally.

I finally got around to reporting seller yuyuanzhubao8's coin auctions mentioned above in which he is selling for very low prices, but is charging outrageous shipping costs. I also mentioned ALL his auctions in all categories are low price, high shipping. I also noticed he has gone to "private" feedback after he received a negative.

FedEx also carries about 75% of USPS Priority Mail.

A european view
I have been had on 80% of the postage I ever paid but I deduct it from my bidding total before I bid
This is simply because the vendors are either ignorant or lazy or do not care

Yesterday I asked what an austrian wants to ship a coin fully insured to belgium
The answer should be 7.5 eur

I got following answer
we do not ship in declared value because the postoffice wants us to seal the bubble envelope with wax seal and that is too much work we do not do this . So if you want to bid and pay for insured mail it will be by package service and cost you 22 euro

Reversely I wanted to offer my wife some french perfume by Karl Lagerfeld that can only be bought in the US
The vendor wants 30 dollars shipping
and then I will have a lot of problems with customs
So I told my wife we will buy in novembre So that if customs leave the package on the shelve for two months like they did before it will not spoil in the summer heat

CFM, please give us an example of his auctions. We're always looking for scams to report to ebay. Trade dollars from China have an especially bad reputation (most are counterfeit), but those auctions always seems to attract the suckers who think they are getting a great deal = something for nothing. To add to my list of quotes, "Oh what fools these mortals be!" (Shakespeare, but I haven't shaken out the specific play yet).
