Does anybody have information or pictures on the 1962-3 penny varieties (hanging 2/3, etc)? I've got a bunch I'd like to start going through and would really appreciate some guidance. Thanks everyone  |

Every time I read about another variety, I get real paranoid about handing my change over to the girls at the Timmy's drive-through. Yikes

That's why I need to know about EVERY variety so I can be on the lookout! Besides, lately I have more time than money, so I can better afford to spend some time rollhunting rather than buy nice coins

I know what you mean, I've been opening old rolls I hand rolled during the seventies and eighties just to see what's in them. At the time I just sorted the years and put them in rolls, I didn't pull anything out of them.

Here's a 1960's list splatto, I'm sure there are more that I don't know about.
1960 - Hanging 0
1961 - Hanging 1
1962 - Double 962
1962 - Double hanging 2
1962 - Guitar
1962 - Hanging 2
1962 - Harp
1962 - Missing M
1963 - Double hanging 3
1963 - Hanging 3
1963 - Triple hanging 3
1964 - Extra Spine
1964 - Hanging 4
1965 - Hanging 5
1965 - SB P5*, SB B5, LB B5, LB P5*
1967 - Double date
Just check the few 1960's I had in the piggy bank. The hanging varieties were present, but I needed good magnification and lighting to see it. The 1964 extra spine seems common as well, as in my small sample there was one. But, I'm just starting out so I might not know what I'm talking about.

All of these varieties are making want to follow Ugly's lead with the organization by year storage. It's a big job to open and close rolls.
Just a question to these variety/error hunters: which is more desirable, the coin with a larger doubling, or one with a bit of doubling in a higher grade?

First : the rarity ( like, as example, Hub Doubling and Guitar ). For doubling we have mecanical doubling and hub doubling ( the last one is the rarest doubling ).
Second : the higher grade.
If you can add the rarity and higher grade, that's a + !
