Error With Hole Through It

I saw a modern cent with a hole alth way through the planchet . it was definatly there before the coin was stamped. what do you call this error metalman ( the error king) I know you will know this answer

Hi Jim

If the hole was there bfore the coin was struck then it is a planchet error,,Defective planchet.

I would be interested to see the coin, where did you see it at ?

I do not have it, but I saw a certified one at the coin show, but the real reason for the question, is that I have a 20 cent piece from New Brunswick that seems to have a similar error, and never thought that this kind of error would be worth anything.. I appreciate your responce Rick. Thank you for always being helpful

post a pic scoutjim... the New Brunswick 20 cent is valuble even without an error. Make sure it has not just been holed after being stamped. Ive found many a New Brunswick silver coin which is just holed.

Thanks pattiewhack, yes you are right they are valuable but this one is a planchet error and not a holed coin or anything.. This an Image that I posted when I first be come a member

I cant see it very well but can tell that it isn't the common holed coin. Where did you get it?
