Things have been a little slow on the classic coin front so I thought it might be fun to see some Flying Eagle cents. Here's pictures of my 2 1857 to get us started.

There were quite a few designs considered and rejected before the circulation FE cent was approved. Here's one that might have been rejected for it's size (25mm) or it's high relief (which would have made stacking difficult).

It's a well fed bird, it's not a tumor! Please elaborate on the 1854 coin above, is that a pattern coin?
Here's my only one for now.

This FE is one of several patterns of 1854 and 1855 on a large planchet. By 1856, only small sized PE cents were under consideration. This one was purchased as Judd-165b (bronze), but is actually copper.
