Hi crew,

The "mint your own" B mintmark 2006 50 Years of Television $1 coin was released at the Royal National (Agricultural & Industrial) Association Show in Brisbane, Queensland, known as the RNA Show or Exhibition or EKKA over the past week. It has the B mintmark struck onto an already pressed coin using a special portable press that was brought up from Canberra for the RAM Display. It differs from the B mintmark coin available by mail order from the RAM in that the general coin has all features of both sides of the coin including the mintmark struck at the same time onto blank planchets. The mintmarks therefore vary and the MYO coin has a considerably lower mintage than the general coin.

The RAM Annual Reports record only one mintage being a total of the two.

I have a few extra B mintmark portable press dollar coins after getting coins for myself and some members from the Aussie Forum. If any overseas (not in Australia) member here is a Aussie dollar collector and would like one of these coins, I am prepared to swap it for a current 2006 circulation issue from your country, eg Canadian 50c, $1 or $2; USA two (P & D) 5c, 10c & 25c or $1; UK 50p or 1 pound; Europe 50 euro cents, 1 euro or 2 euro, and so on.

The B mintmark dollar comes in a commemorative card folder and retails at AUS$2.75.

Send me a message if you are interested in a swap.

I am really surprised, not one response. The offer is no longer available due to lack of interest.

RAM has informed me that the mintage figures for the "Mint Your Own" mintmark coins at the various Coin Fairs and Agricultural & Industrial Shows has not been included in the RAM Annual Report mintage figures for the mintmark dollars. Figures are only for the coins minted at the RAM. Watch for the 14th Edition of the McDonald Pocket Guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes for the actual mintages for each Show from 2004, 2005 and some for 2006.

It appears this was the case for earlier issues also.

Wow that puts a spin on the numbers minted of mintmark dollars.

I wonder why they didn't have to count the portable press numbers in their annual report.?..very strange accounting practice.
Surely if they are producing legal tender the numbers produced must be shown (legally) in the report. What a shocker!
