Bigfella has informed me the unc. coin is indeed going to be struck but does not have a price as of yet. I think $44 would be a bit steep for an unc. version. I have already bought the proofs as I did not know unc.s were coming. All that matters to me is keeping the Kangaroo series going. My wife has the complete set and I am amazed at their value!!! Actually a far better series than the Kookaburra and we both have quite a few of them as well.

I have just received my latest Downies Money catalogue, and started reading it about ten minutes ago. They are selling the BU 1oz Silver Roo for $43.95 which is, I agree, a bit steep! It looks as though they will be selling it in a "full-colour designer pack" - whatever that means?
Crystalk64, I agree with you completely about the silver Kangaroo series. I love them, and they increase in value so nicely. I especially love the look of the 2001/2002/2003 coins.

hi all. Hope everyone is having a good day. I ordered a 2006 and 2007 proof kangaroo coins. First of the series for me. Kangaroos are cool. I got mine from the mint guess its going to be awhile. Nothing but time on my side so hey. Could you tell me when the series started. Give me something to look forward to I guess. Hope they don't get to pricey, at least not until I get caught up.

I will have them for sale at $43.95. As mentioned in other posts they were only available to dealers in a caspule and then dealers are carding them.

I have my SILVER 2007 Kangaroos here SAFE in Indiana in both proof and unc. (BU) so I am a happy collector, at least for the moment! My dealer has managed to come up with some Australian 3 pence coins from the 20,s and 30's but didn't have a price on them today. I told him to just put them back and I would pick them up later as I knew where they could live in a good home!

I have been asked by a member of a German coinforum who does not write English perfectly to ask following question Some German collectors call this BU Silver not a coin but a belated medal Does this silver have legal tender status ? Is it or not different from the status of all other years ?Edited because I typed three words wrong

The Kangaroos and Kookaburras are legal tender. Having said that, there are many who would suggest that the only 'real' coins are those that have been released for circulation, and that non-circulating legal tender (NCLT) coins are nothing more than (to use your term) a "belated medal". I have often thought that a proof coin is not a real coin. It has been manufactured for the collector market. You might argue that it is the pinnacle of craftmanship and represents what a quality circulated coin is meant to look like, but it not meant for general circulation thereby not making it a true coin of the realm. Ducking for cover now

If I can take it to the bank and get the face value of it back then it is a coin to me.

Are the silver kangaroos limited mintage production? If not why aren't they close to spot price?

The Kangaroos are limited production and they hold their value really well. A full set of Kangaroos is a really NEAT collection and quite profitable if you are lucky enough to get them at release prices! (Which my wife and I didn't!) But my wife has managed to finally get them all so she is way ahead of me!!! It is my understanding the next two years will also be designed by famous Australian artists so I will continue my efforts with the Kangaroo!!!

Terry, so its not bullion? I was looking at completed ebay auctions and they seem to be retailing around $20s. That would mean it has come down in price. Or I'm looking at the wrong coin.

The BU version is mint to demand....the proof and gilded is limited. The BU is marketed and sold as a collector coin. As far as the 2006 version is concerned. The mint announced pricing before the silver hike last year. The Perth Mint increased its' price on bullion silver at this time which meant the cost of bullion 1oz kookaburras was over AU$6.00 above the price of the 2006 BU roos. Even though the roos are a collector coin they contain the same amount of silver as a 1oz kooka to the bullion market started buying these in vast qualities. The mint therefore had a big problem in that at one point the wholesale price of a BU roo was less than spot price of silver. The 2006 BU roo was therefore "pulled early" and the 2007 roo released with the standard BU version being Cu/Ni and the Silver version being being only released in a capsule made for repackaging.

Thanks Bigfella for the illustration. I couldn't figure out why the price was high.
