1909 Lincoln Doubled Die Obverse / DDO - Pondering ?

Indian1 Pillar of the Community United States 3640 Posts	Posted 10/21/2010 12:25 pm Below is a pic. of the 09 DDO-01 This is a known verified DDO When I look at this pic. the first thing I see is what appears to be Machine Doubling. I know it is not, but has the attributes of MD (at least to myself) Was wondering if anyone else agrees. And if the confirming point of this DDO is the fact that the second 9 shows no doubling effects. In other words, if you found let's say, a 1999 that had doubling just like this 09 except is was on all four numerals would you beleive it to be just MD ? coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 10/22/2010 09:12 am I don't see it. I see normal letters that are doubled - a doubled die. The effect of Machine Doubling is not only a flattened and shelf-like doubling, but also the fact that the "doubling" takes away from the normal thickness of the lettering. That's generally the first thing I see when I look at Machine Doubling - the fact that the letters are thinner than they should be. In this case the primary lettering is normal in thickness...the first sign of a doubled die. Report this Post to the Staff
