I never messed with roll searching until I became part of this forum. I can see why it is so addicting. You never know what you are going to find! I pulled this 1997-D MAD out of a roll today. It is quite noticeable, but I don't know if it is extreme enough to be worth any premium. Would you save it or toss it back? How about this one? It has an extra chunk of metal on Lincoln's nose. I'm guessing it is a die chip or something. Unfortunately, the reverse has a bunch of verdigris on it. What do you think? Would you save it or toss it back? Thanks in advance!

Those are just a matter of personal preference.
I would have kept the die chip if it weren't for the verdigris, only because of the unusual placement.
On the MAD's, I only keep the ones that are off by AT LEAST as much as the one you have pictured. They aren't worth anything, but I'm trying to see if I can put together an entire Memorial set. Just as a side project.

If you like them, keep them and if they bore you at some time in the future, cash 'em in. You're only tying up $0.02!
Though, personally, I'd toss the MAD back and keep the die chip. It's not worth anything but it's kinda fun.

except that I would toss them both back. I used to keep ones like that when I first started collecting but they add up quickly, next thing you know you have hundreds if not thousands of this kind of thing in your collection and don't forget about storing them some place.Keep what you like at least for awhile, you can always spend them later or even put the nicer finds on the "bay".IMHO, John1

I say, send them to me! I love those skewed placements. Don't care if I have a 1000 of them. BTW, it's your collection, call it like you see it! I used to hate re-arranging my cent collections for all those little oddities I found. Now I have a separate "Oddity" page that I post by date found. Oh, but if you do keep them, treat the verdigris. Now...presuming you don't mind conserving circulated coins if they'll never be worth much anyway; use a toothpick and a little drop of Verdi-care, followed by a distilled water bath. Dab dry with a soft cotton cloth and then let it dry for several days. Verdigris can spread. Hopefully Bad Thad will jump in here a give you the real way to treat the problem. If not, just look it up with the Forum search.

"worth" - you mean worth money, or do you mean worthy of collecting? If the former, no. They have no numismatic value if as minor as the one you posted. If the latter - save what you want to save as long as your reason isn't monetary gain.

Keep them both! Even if you had a thousand of them, that's only an "investment" of 10 bucks. The "entertainment value" is much greater than 10 bucks!
