Do a search for 'hobo' in 'coins:U.S.' on ebay.....

You will find that the one that you linked to is probably one of the worst examples.....(very poor workmanship)....there are several that are very good though.

old hobo's would do this to Buffalo nickels and sell them to make money. That is why they are called hobo nickels. there are some that are really sought after and some of the ones that are gunsmiths and are early engravers that have the nice engraving tools do some amazing work. here is a half that turns Kennedy into Nixon

Most of these are modern hobo nickels but some can sell for hundreds of dollars and some of the earlier ones that look crude to most people are really sought after also

I've seen some beautiful hobo coins (mostly nickels). The artist of that 'hobo' morgan should find a new hobby.

If done by a good Hobo artist, that "Civil War Soldier" Morgan
would look amazing.

Even that crude hackjob showed the potential of the basic concept.

Wow. If I saw those in an antique shop, I would only recognize it as a Buffalo nickel by the date! Wild.
