thingee Pillar of the Community United States 2177 Posts	Posted 09/18/2006 9:03 pm Check out the facial profile here, especially the upper half. The profile has a raised rim, and edge to it, like the kind you find on a the side of a bottle. It's as if when the coin got stamped/pressed it then shifted away from the profile and left a groove between this raised edge and the surface of the coin. Like 3 D. Any thoughts? OOps!! There would certainly be doubling on the letters and numbers if it was a doubled die. But this is an extreme case. Cool find! Report this Post to the Staff

This coin was struck with a die suffering from deterioration due to excessive use, which was very, very common in 1964. Report this Post to the Staff
