This is my first post in quite awhile, so forgive me if I miss some proper technique or etiquette for these forums. I've recently picked back up my search for error coins and have found a few interesting ones recently. They may be nothing, so bear with me. I'll post them all in separate threads if that's the best way to do it.

Anyway, first up is a 1992 nickel with a deformed "C" in "FIVE CENTS" on the back.

I've never seen a "C" do this on a coin and was wondering if this could be a deformity from the manufacturer or if it's most likely something caused by trauma after the fact. I don't see off hand how any damage could cause this, but I suppose anything is possible.

What are your thoughts?

edit: speeling erorr

edit #2: I thought this closeup view of the "C" might be helpful. Photobucket kindly squashes original pictures.

Hi semvhu

My initial impression is post mint damage,, the C looks like it has been hit on the top curve.

Interesting fault. I don't see any other tell tale damage on the coin in the photo that I would expect to see if this was an "after mint" damage.

If any other collectors on this forum have one it would go along way to confirming this as a mint error.

Post Mint damage.

The coin has dings all over it. It has been thruogh some hard hits from something. Look at the top of the "E" also. It has been hit and lines up with the top of the "C" hit. Simply put, metal was moved.

Definitely post-mint damage, no question about it. Stuff like this doesn't happen at the mint.
