Okay, I really want this one to be real, but my best guess is it's just worn down either from major handling or because someone filed it down.

I cannot see anything on the back that would indicate why the tail side is blank, but you can make out a bit of the "N" in the upper middle, so my guess is it's just worn.

I still thought it was an intersting penny nonetheless.

with the lack of a rim my guess is that the cent was subjected to a corrosive chemical of some type,, even a Struck Through Grease or filled die would still show the upset of the rim.

Definitely looks to be man made. Has been in circulation for quite some time as the reverse now has the same tone as the obverse. Nice find none the less.

The reverse was ground off this coin - reason unknown, many are possible. It is not an error.
