I began error/variety searching today by separating all the 1992 P and D coins and the 1998, 1999, 200 coins. I was of course searching for the 1992 close "AM" and 1998-200 Wide "AM" varieties. I think it would be cool to have an area on the forum just for lincoln varieties and errors since there are so many of them. I would like to get more involved in searching for them and have a place to see what is collectable and what is just another penny. Pictures of your finds, questions, links, and discussion about the different varieties would be very cool. All the errors in one place will also make it easy for people like me to learn what to watch for and how to spot it. What do you error experts have to start off this thread? I wish value followed that logic though....I've found at least a roll of each of his "keys". Not sure I agree with his findings though. Anyway I always enjoy the hunt! Really that's what its about! When we get as far from them as we are the Wheaties list it may be near impossible to grab a 1968s from circulation. ..and as they get more and more rarely found the value will come in. amida17 Pillar of the Community United States 4897 Posts	Posted 06/05/2011 6:10 pm I agree except you need to factor in other variables. 68 was the first S mint cent made since 1955. Probably highly hoarded in high grades. Take the 2009 LP4 as an example by far the lowest mintage at 129,600,000. By this logic it should be THE key of memorials. Yet I have over 500 in at least MS63. I guess what I am saying is that high grade (MS68+) is really what will make a memorial a "Key". I dunno just a thought... Report this Post to the Staff
Chriscoinmaster Valued Member United States 337 Posts	Posted 06/06/2011 01:07 am interesting thoughts on the keys. I am hoarding away a roll of each LMC for the future. If one turns out to be a key in years to come, my heirs will own a roll of them after I am gone. I am 21, so by then the coins will be well over 100 years old I would hope. By this time an idea of if there will be some value should show up. Anyone have any of these lincoln varieties to show off. I searched a few of my little brothers and sisters piggy banks when I went over for a visit. I came up with about 70 coins from 1998-2000 and 1992 but found no WAMs or CAMs. I hope this thread takes off, but we need more posts and finds. seal006 Pillar of the Community United States 1915 Posts	Posted 06/06/2011 01:38 am I think your list is ok, especially for beginners. The problem is it is nowhere near complete. There are to many for any one list. Also if you only check for the ones you have listed, you may potentially tossing another. Not to mention you could be lucky enough to find a undiscovered variety.
