QldSandy Valued Member Australia 61 Posts	Posted 11/08/2006 03:39 am Hi Guys and Girls, Does anyone collect Proof coins. I have completed a set of Decimal coins taken from mints sets and the plastic envelopes for the mintmark years, and am now starting on a set of proof coins with the same mintmark ones to fill in the blank spots in the Dansco Supreme albums. It is almost a shame to break open these sets, almost. Any advice from the members is appreciated. Thanks in advance and cheers. Report this Post to the Staff

crystalk64 Pillar Of The Community 3147 Posts	Posted 11/08/2006 08:11 am My advice from experience is that many proofs DON'T fare well in albums. My wife's silver Statehood Quarters started tarnishing in a matter of a few years so we removed them to save those that had not started. Kind of odd as my Kennedy half dollars have not and many of them are quite old. None the less we have decided NOT to do anymore proof albums! Report this Post to the Staff

The coin dealer that visits our town on a monthly basis might be the bloke to ask as he has a lot of experience in decimal and predecimal coins. crystalk64 Pillar Of The Community 3147 Posts	Posted 11/09/2006 7:21 pm If I bust proof sets open I prefer to use airtite holders to protect the coins I intend to keep. I have purchased numbers quanities of the commemorative nickels the U.S. issued in 2004 and 2005 (especially 2005) and every one of them now resides in airtite holders. In my mind there is NOTHING better. At one time we were using so many that we ordered in bulk from the company to do our Morgan dollars. I have purchased numerous Aussie Mob of Roos in proof, along with other Aussie commemoratives I wanted, and each one of them is NOW in airtite holders. I am still working the Aussie Mob of Roos in proof condition when I can find them and will continue to use the airtite once the coins make the journey from Down Under to my home!
