 Danlos, funny you mentioned that coin 'cause I was just thinking about it. I still havn't received it yet as a result of the Postal strike. But there is a funny story to that coin. That coin (1886, AU-58 quarter) was sold at the May 28, 2011 (No Reserve) C & P Auction for $1,700.00, the buyer being Greg Jones of Lighthouse Numismatics. He out bid me by a mere $200.00. Not realizing it was him that won it, I was shocked to see it on E-bay weeks later being auctioned by him. (Lighthouse Numismatics) I traded him some coins/cash for it. He is currently in Toronto at the Torex and from there he will FedEx the coin to me. I should have it on Tuesday/Wednesday! Glenn  |

 WOW, what a fun two evenings I've had at the Torex Auction. I think I'm done with Torex. $6 admission, no door prizes, and the most absent security I've never seen in my life. Until some of that changes I probably won't go near this one anymore. And the price of beer there, I can't even have a decent sip if I wanted to.

I hear you Libertad! I saw two people walk through the doors giggling as they hadnt paid their admission.
I will however still go to the next show.

Yeah, I mean, not to poop on Torex, it's great that they can put on shows and auctions. But if you're bidding at the auction (big $) you have no need to go into the bourse where the admission is $6 (only one room out of 3-4 are made to pay for the rest?). The little guy gets the big shaft here. Free parking doesn't really pique my interest.

I did not go to the auction but spent my money sitting at home in front of my computer with a cold beer bidding on some pieces.I got one I have been looking for for a few years.I collect 1 cent pieces so I only watched sesson 1.Very nice coins there.

I finally got my 2000 25c mule, PCGS MS-65. It's been the only modern mule missing from my set for quite a while, and I'm happy to fill the hole with the grade I wanted (passed over a couple 63's and 64's in the past).

In online absentee bidding:
1920 10 cents MS63 ICCS
1929 10 cents MS63 ICCS
1930 10 cents MS63 ICCS
1919 25 cents MS63 ICCS
1946 dollar MS63 ICCS
Nothing particularly rare, but all much better than what I have now.
An anomaly in the coins I was tracking is that a $1 1947 Maple Leaf 2 x HP MS63 white sold for 60% of trends, while a $1 1947 Blunt 7 2 x HP MS63 white sold for 170% of trends. I guess a couple of people really wanted that one.

 Funny how sales go at an auction? You can have two identical coins graded by the same TPG at the same grade, however, if one is dark and the other is blast white, there could be an amazing variance between the sale price of the two coins. Another example, you can have two coins: same date, denomination and grade, however the TPG's are different, there could be a large variance in price as a result. I guess it's all up to the Players and what their taste is that night! Glenn  |

glenzy, you bet. With the live view that you can do online with the sessions (showing you a picture in real time), it can be quite educational to follow. One thing is for certain: there is no substitute for eye appeal.

 With venues like E-bay, on-line auctions, Torex, C & P, Heritage Auctions, I often wonder what the future holds for Mom and Pop/brick and mortar coin shops? What will it be like for collectors who are used to getting incredible bargains at the above mentioned venues on Key date coins at 40-60% trends, to suddenly walk into a real coin store and look at scarce coins with asking prices of 90-110% trends? I would like C+P to use better picture's of there coins as its very hard to check the coins out for varities with those picture's. When you try to plow them up for a better view they distort so bad and go all fussy looking.
