Hi all. How much should I expect to get out of 10 dimes and 15 quarters? I know several places that will buy silver and I don't want to be ripped off. Thanks for any help.

$98.80 for the quarters.
$26.35 for the dimes.
$125.15 total silver value at $36.42.
I doubt you will get full spot for them. Most places buy for a percentage of spot. I would try selling them to a private buyer, like craigslist or even here on the forum. You could probably get more out of them that way.
Edit: I guess what I am saying is make sure you shop around. A lot of places will seriously try to under buy you silver of gold. We have a place here in town the gives people about 1/3 of what they are worth. Also, do not sent them into one of those mail-in-your-gold type of things. They are a huge scam.

Yeah Id try to find a private buyer. I went into a "WE BUY GOLD LA" in my town (they are the only place I can find that deals with coins here), and they were offering much less than what I can get for my silver coins. Disappointing.

I recently sold some of my silver dollars. It was at a coin show, and I as able to shop around for the best offer.

Get enough posts and sell 'em here...you'd probably get full spot for 'em.

Obviously you steer clear of those gold buyers. Everyone's trying to cash in but no one has connections so they offer a lower price. Sell your coins here - there's bound to be a buyer.

Yeah, you could sell them here or on ebay. Most of the smaller coin shops I goto would lowball almost anyone bringing in 90% silver coins. |

All my local coin shops will buy them for under spot because they have to make a profit. I have a few and I shop around for the best prices. Last time I checked over the weekend my local shops were paying between 22-23 times face. I'm sure its gone up since the silver market has gone up.

Thanks guys! I really needed to know what the value was so I wouldn't take a low amount and not know it. I may go ahead and sell on here. First I'll see what the people in town have to offer. Again, thank you!

Let them make an offer and say that's a little low. I've had them up the offer by 20% to 30%. They hope you don't know what it's worth and try to get it as cheap as possible. If you know what you have, you always get more.
Look in the showcase to see if they have silver Quarters and Dimes for sale and ask how much they sell them for. THEN ask what they pay for the same coins.

FWIW, on smaller lots like this I have sold it locally. Here is why, take shipping, your time / effort / into consideration.
So the way I look at it 90% of sales price after expenses on the forum OR 90% locally without ANY expenses. Technically you have to get a higher price on the forum to breakeven.

That makes sense. By the way, I have more silver than this, This is just what I was wanting to sell now. I have a car project going on, and need a little extra cash. I'll definitely take the advise on here and check out locally first. Thanks again.
Also, What is the equation that is used to come up with the silver content value of both dimes and quarter dollars? This will be useful to me in the future!

I first collected junk silver, so ebay was usually right on spot, I found a lot of competition with bidding. I'm now hooked on collecting thanks to getting some nice coins that I was merely buying for the silver.  Teena |

Some people who buy and sell on Craig's List will only do so in a public place, such as a local bank branch or a coffee shop. Not that this kind of security is perfect by any means but it beats a lot of other places. I would not use my home, their home, or a store parking lot for such deals. In addition, pay very close attention to the person with whom you will deal. Your intuition can be very helpful in spotting people who are up to no good. Trust your feelings!  |

That said, whenever I buy or sell coins, I always choose a PUBLIC place that has a degree of privacy. You really don't want some passerby seeing a lot of value changing hands. Typically I use a bank (lots of money changing hands there so not so obvious to a passerby), a restaurant with private booths, or, if I am buying from a known dealer, I do the transaction at my place of business. I NEVER do anything where I live. I don't want any uninvited "guests" visiting my place in hopes of finding something of value there. Neither do I go to other private places. I want some degree of control over the transaction. As a private collector I typically pay 85-90% of melt value for 90% silver coins. I don't pay less and I don't pay more. |
