I saw this set last night for the first time and I immediately wanted it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12076242252....m1431.l2649Does anyone know how much silver is in these coins? 90%? .999? As of right now, what is the value of the coins based on their melt value? Thanks a lot!  |

They certainly are nice, but I believe they are only 40% silver. I've purchased a few of them for between US$20-25 in the past couple of months.

This is the special three-piece bicentennial proof set issued in 1975. All three coins are 40% silver clad (Cladding: 80% silver 20% copper, Core: 79% copper 21% silver).

I should add that this would be a great purchase to fill the Dansco 7070 bicentennial holes.  |

I have added up the total silver content for all 3 coins and it comes out to be 0.53792 oz of silver.

These sell on ebay all the time, as well as the uncirculated silver sets. A couple of months ago, I was trying to buy enough sets to get a roll of each coin and focused on the uncirculated because I expected the proof sets to sell for more than the uncirculated sets. I was surpised to discover, however, that the proof sets generally sold for about the same and sometimes even less. I guess it's all just a matter of taste, since they have the same silver content. Either way, though, they sure are nice and I bought a few proof sets anyway just to have. |

If you like those then ignor the Silver content. Your not going to melt them, sell them for melting or have someone make a necclace out of them. So then if you buy buy them, use them as a coin.
As jbuck said, could use for a Dansco Album.

I got 2 sets of these last year for about $18 each, very nice sets. One set is to keep and one set is in my Dansco US Type album.
