I do not see a doubled die. What part do you think shows doubling?

I've never seen a true DDO penny and held one in my hands, and I thought that the bottom of the N just looked different.

Looks pretty normal to me. Go to coppercoins.com you will find a vast number of doubled dies. It is not as good as having one in hand, but it will give you a good idea of what to look for.
