Are These Steel Pennies Dipped In Mercury/Other Acids?

andrewjconners Valued Member United States 497 Posts	Posted 02/13/2013 6:37 pm I bought these off ebay for a pretty good deal but nothing in the auction mentioned mercury plated or some type of acid polishing. I am led to believe based off a few pictures of random coins in the lot that they are in fact mercury dipped. I want to get some opinions before I go accusing anybody. Of course, that's one of the problems with steel, it corrodes, rusts, pits, and "gets wonky". Did the pictures for the auction show all these coins with issues? Report this Post to the Staff

The black one (if that's black and not reprocessed) is actually the most normal of the bunch - I've got a lot that are dark gray / black. Just normal patina. A good deal would be less than 25c each. Well, a lot less... Still, if you love 'em, that's all that matters! Report this Post to the Staff
