Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a 1950 D Jefferson nickel. It is one of 5 Jeffersons I have not been able to pull out of circulation. For this one, though, I'd like to get an uncirculated coin. Does anyone have any tips on strike quality? I've seen examples with 4.5-5 steps and some with weak pillars. Any general recommendations would be welcome. Thank you.

Yes, get the best coin you can. I don't think the full steps are necessarily the only thing you should look for. A good strong strike, with good definition of the columns and the pediment is every bit as important.

I just bought one in "BU" condition today completely out of impulse, but it only has partial steps.
