Liberia Morgans And Toning - Coin Community Forum

fasttalker27 Valued Member United States 55 Posts	Posted 06/06/2013 10:21 am I have seen several of these Liberia silver dollars with the Morgan obverse. Many of them are highly toned. What causes these in particular to have vibrant toning over a regular coin? Report this Post to the Staff

I suspect it's a combination of the particular Mint wash, and the surfaces as struck by the different dies. The alloy is essentially the same; the differences have to be a function of the process. I believe a lot of it has to do with the strike (die pressure), slight variations in the metal composition and (of course) environmental exposure. Lincoln Cent Lover!
