I was helping out at a local coin shops today. A guy has been bringing in coins his mother had collected. Last week he sold silver half dollars and dimes. On Tuesday he dropped off a stack of envelopes, saying they were wheat cents, and asked if we would look through them and come up with a price. (also a Whitman #2 folder)

Today I started going through them .. some nice wheat cents .. but no key dates. Then I picked up a envelope, on it was written 1922 double eagle. I am like no way .. I open the envelope and out slides a 1922 St Gauden $20.00 gold coin. I guess the guy dropping them off never looked at the envelopes at all.

It was nice to see how happy the guy was when we told him his wheat cents turned into a lot more than he expected.

I had to take my camera to work .. tried to get a couple pictures ..

There was also a cool masonic token .. on the back of a 1856 Seated Liberty quarter.

Thats very honest of you, I love to hear when people do the right thing. So many claim they would but probably would have slipped that $20 piece in their pocket when no one was looking. Cheers

There seems to be a lot more people coming in, selling coins, because they are in need of money. It makes me happy .. finding nice coins and helping out those that need it. Just seeing how happy the people are, makes it worth it.

GR, I wish you worked at my LCS. Very admirable thing you did and yes, many are selling coins now. I have seen more classic collections being sold the last year than all the years combined. It's great for those of us shopping but I feel terrible for some of the families.
I bought a fair amount a few weeks ago from my LCS from a very senior customer who I've talked to over the years. He is having a lot of financial problems and from what I've seen he has some wonderful coins, sad to see though. I have wanted to call him directly but believe that would not be ethical as he has always dealt with the store directly.
Congrats again...
