Hello everyone!

I have recently received this Asian piece and I don't know anything about it. I am guessing it is Chinese. I would appreciate any help with it! I would like to know if this is a coin or a charm. Maybe someone could help me with the Chinese characters, I would very much like to know what they mean. Finally, if anyone knows I would appreciate an opinion regarding the time it was produced/issued: is it recent or maybe older? Please see attached images!

Definitely a charm. Hard to say exactly, but the dots in the field on the side with the characters suggest a recent reproduction which has been antiqued.
The inscription would seem to be, in the Japanese reading, (top, bottom, right, left order) chin-taku, meaning something like "peaceful home", shi-hou, where hou is "treasure" & shi is the mark of the possessive, meaning that this is the "treasure OF A peaceful home". This "shi-hou" takes the place of tsu-hou "circulating treasure" on coins, where the top-bottom characters give the reign or era title.
