Yeah, the only way I can figure for just that little crud, so dark, being left on the coin is if someone tried and failed to clean it all off. Walk past it; there will be another.

Gotta agree with VT $25 tops. Be patient find a nice original example, they are out there for reasonable prices. I would look closer at dealer stock. These seem to get crazy sometimes in the auction world. I think their perceived rarity is askew in regard to real world availability.

There are a lot of genuine Flying Eagles out there to be had, you don't need to waste your money on a damaged coin.
Collecting is 10% buying and 90% patience.
