There are 3 deep hits on his neck and cheek. The gash on his collar is a die crack or die polish line as it is raised Report this Post to the Staff
nickelsearcher Moderator United States 15596 Posts	Posted 04/28/2014 4:21 pm Agreed that this is a poorly struck coin with several die polishing lines ... likely a late die state example of the 67,400 1922 Grant 'no star' struck. Concur that the mark on Grant's forehead is a toning spot of some sort. That said ... strike quality is alas not considered a significant element of technical grading ... and as such this coin is likely at a minimum an unattractive MS63 example. Grading is subjective ... and without the coin in hand I can not fault the PCGS MS64 grade ... although an experienced collector with knowledge of the strike characteristics of the series would have passed on this particular coin.
