1949-S Wheat Penny Mis Strike - Double Strike ? Interesting

Is it a mis-strike, double strike or something else? It's interesting though. Lincoln Wheat penny 1949s. Any comments appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

Dave42 Pillar of the Community United States 571 Posts	Posted 09/04/2014 11:14 am Looks to have been encased in some sort of bezel. Possibly for jewelry or a "Lucky Penny". Regardless, this happened after the coin left the mint, as there is no process at the mint that would cause a coin to look like this. I'd keep it as an educational piece. MaryR New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 09/04/2014 1:50 pm "put in a bezel"....is that something that would have been done in a press? It's as if it were cut into. Would a bezel do that? What would be the ridge of a normal penny isn't present on the inner part of where the penny's edge should be. It's the size of a quarter except for where the circle is scewed a little at the left of the head where it's bright copper. The outer ring is copper too. Report this Post to the Staff
Altaira Pillar of the Community Canada 2527 Posts	Posted 09/04/2014 2:45 pm I can't answer your question of how it's put in a bezel, but on the part of the penny having no rim is probably just because it's worn down. I once read that pocket pieces wear down on the rims faster (can anyone confirm?). Or it might have just been sanded down. Report this Post to the Staff
