shale , this looks a lot like your 18-s mercury, which I said looked like it came out of the ground.
when you say you found this 26-s; do you mean you found it ''MEATAL DETECTING''. again this coin looks
harshly cleaned. G-4 - CLEANED. but like you said ,it's a hole filler.

My experience when collecting Mercury dimes is that 1926-S is the date most likely to have been screwed with by someone in the past. Most of the mid-to-high grade examples you see are badly cleaned. It's also one of the most poorly made issues of the series and one of the scarcest, period, so finding a nice looking example outside of the lower grades is almost impossible.
